I find it best to plan my days with an itinerary to make sure you get to take everything in during your visit. A week can go by very fast if un planned. It is best to find out the most important places to go, from everyone that is going and go from there. The magic kingdom alone covers over 100 acres that's a lot of ground to cover and keep everyone happy, on the Walt Disney Web site you can make custom maps detailing only where you want to go which can make things a hole lot easier.
A list of tips I have learn to ease you Walt Disney Vacation, first Don't forget your camera, second wear sunscreen and bring some water to drink a light rain jacket is also a good idea. In addition, I learned that many of the characters you will meet on your visit are multi lingual. You will also find a board at Mains Street USA that tells you how long the lines are at many of the rides, this way you can plan out where to go next.
